Sliding into the alpha phase - TCPD Update #7!


Hey everybody, it's been quite a while since the last TCPD update!

This one is pretty significant! The changes includes physics updates, level changes, new game modes, and more.

Special thanks to everybody who tried the game during the #IndieRacersFestival! I'm working on implementing changes/fixes from all the feedback I received during the event. I promise the next update will be within the next month or so, not year!

🔳 Latest Changes

  • New traffic system!
    • Heavily improved performance allows for 50+ vehicles at a time in your area!
    • Different traffic vehicles implemented (to match parked cars)
    • Setting for traffic level (heavy/light/none)
    • Traffic is slightly less interactive right now (no horns/lights/avoidance) but that will change in the future
  • Vehicle controller updates!
    • Added side wheelies
    • Updated drifting
      • Updated camera lag & body roll
      • Updated force to feel more natural
    • Slightly tweaked camera (fov + distance)
    • Add sound when opening/closing doors
    • Updated vehicle reset code & removed reset button (respawn still available via pause menu)
  • Level updates!
    • LATC:
      • Convert some geometry to static meshes for better performance
      • Add a bunch of new buildings all over the map to populate most areas
      • More general building details & smoothed out/crafted landscape areas
      • Lighting and postprocessing updates for better performance and cleaner visuals
      • More destructible props
      • Block off tree areas with fences
      • Add kill zones that respawn player somewhere close with message
      • Traffic system now covers entire map
    • Downtown/tutorial level:
      • Blocked off all exits to center parking lot
      • Spawn player in front of garage in central parking lot
      • Add gas station and garages in center parking lot area for tutorial
      • Removed from singleplayer/multiplayer level choice selection for now
  • Singleplayer updates!
    • Objective mode (NEW!):
      • Objective mode can now be accessed via the main menu for LATC
      • Includes 5 objectives including high scores and finding hidden objects!
      • Added objective list with animations/sound when completing objectives
        • List can be viewed at any time in game by pressing keyboard TAB or controller SELECT
      • More objectives coming soon
    • Taxi mode:
      • Added more passengers and delivery locations
      • Tweaked delivery times + rewards to allow more time for dellivery
      • Updated starting round time to 90 seconds
    • Tutorial mode (NEW!):
      • Completely overhauled the (previously disabled) tutorial mode:
        • Better walk-through of all basic tricks/movement
        • Display controls for keyboard or controller
        • Updated tutorial area to include more buildings/props
        • Added visual markers for locations to drive to/execute tricks in
  • General changes:
    • Various small performance tweaks/optimizations
    • Add more SFX to props
    • Added FPS counter widget (toggle in game with F8)
    • LATC is now the only accessible map outside of the tutorial
      • There will be more maps in the future after LATC is 'finished'
